Horse Reins and Macrame Rope Halters

I grew up riding English. As a teenager I envied the freedom to play with colors that Western riders had. English riding was crisp, formal, black and white, and the saddles were lightweight and next to Western saddles, down right plain.

Western is rough, cowboy, barrels and saddles that take 3 of me to carry and lift on a horse’s back.

Riders and their mounts wear matching colors.

You know me and colors.

I tried to teach myself how to make a rope halter. There is a scary knot called the Fedora knot that is a maze of loops and the rope goes there and then here and back over there….so I buy them and THEN add colorful cords to the noseband.

Which led to making lead ropes. I still don’t have one that’s perfect. However, learning to make them has been a blast. I need to work out measuring the paracord sizes better because adding on cord always messes up the design.

My first pair of riding reins feels like a real accomplishment. There’s a few ways to make them. I was over thinking it. With each new horse thing I’m learning how to make, there’s snaps to consider, and buckles and paracord types. It’s like macrame and figuring out the right cord to use. Do I want braided or single strand, cotton or some of the new fangled fluffy stuff used in macroweaves.

Soon I’ll have enough confidence to sell this new line of items. Let me know if I can make you something!
